Soon all Indian missions will issue passport within 48 hours: VK Singh

Date:

Minister of State for External Affairs VK Singh said that Indian missions across the world would soon issue passports in less than 48 hours to citizens abroad.

The passport offices at Indian missions have been digitally linked with the data centre in India and will help in speeding up the process, he said addressing a gathering after launching the Passport Seva project at the Indian embassy in Washington.

In New York, earlier this week, Indian mission issued passports in less than 48 hours. “This is going to happen across the world,” Singh said.

After the UK and the US, the project would be extended to all the Indian missions across the globe, Singh added. The ‘Passport Seva’ project was first launched in the UK last month.

A new set of passports will be issued by the Indian government over the next few week, the minister said. The new passports will have all kind of security features and better printing and paper quality.
