Delhi plans artificial rain to curb pollution

Date:

As there is no improvement in the levels of pollution in the capital, artificial rain might be induced by the centre, to eradicate the harmful pollutants from the air.

The process of artificial rain is done by the process of cloud seeding that combines different types of chemical particles such as dry ice, silver iodide, and common salt along with the clouds that might be able to thicken them and produce rainfall.

Dr. Mahesh Sharma, the Union Minister of Delhi said that the government will pass an order to induce artificial rain in the state if the situation does not get better.

Delhi, this morning was covered by a thick layer of smog and dust in many areas across the state and the air quality index was recorded at 352 which falls under the ‘very poor’ category based on the data pulled from the Central Pollution Control Board.

According to the Energy Policy Institute at the University of Chicago, India is ranked at number 2 among the most polluted countries in the world.

The authorities stated that if the weather conditions remain the same, artificial rain will be induced for immediate improvement in Delhi.

If this process takes place, it will be the first time in the country that the scientists will produce clouds to cause artificial rain.
