Master Blaster recalls when he made international debut 29 years ago

Sachin Tendulkar, cricket, god, India, god of cricket, birthday

Twenty-Nine years ago, on this very day, cricket got arguably its most prized asset, as ‘Master Blaster’ Sachin Tendulkar made his international debut. At a tender age of 16, a young boy from Mumbai stepped on to the pitch of Karachi, against a fierce Pakistan team. And the rest, as they say, is history.

Having started off at No.6, he made 15 runs on his maiden while facing the likes of Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis, Imran Khan and Abdul Qadir. And it was just the beginning of the most successful cricket career any individual has had.

On the special occasion, the player himself rolled back over the years and relived his first few days in the cricketing area. Taking to Twitter, Sachin posted a message, remembering the first match he played.

“This day, every year, brings back so many memories of the day I 1st represented India. It was an honour to play for the country and be able to represent India for 24 years. #TBT #ThrowbackThursday”

‘God of Cricket’, ‘Master Blaster’, ‘Little Master’ – Sachin has been known by all these names throughout his career. He thoroughly enjoyed his time in the sport, and rewrote history and scripted numerous records, some which may never be broken.

In an international career lasting 24 years, Sachin played an astonishing 664 matches, scoring a record 34,357 runs, which also includes a record 100 centuries. He only played one T20I in his career, scoring 10, with his success coming in the Tests and ODIs.

Sachin’s record in the longest format is unrivaled. His 200 matches, 15921 runs, 51 centuries and 68 fifties are the highest by any batsman in Test cricket. And the story is the same in the ODI format. His 463 matches, 18426 runs, 49 centuries and 96 fifties see him stand well above the rest.

ICC, BCCI and his fans on Twitter paid tribute to Sachin on the occasion of his 29th anniversary of his international debut.
