This village in Assam has been making green firecrackers for 130 years

Date:

According to the Supreme Court order, firecrackers have been banned and a two-hour window has been fixed for green firecrackers, while the usual ones have been completely banned. With this order, the residents living in the Ganakkuchi village in Assam have got a new reason for living by making green firecrackers.

For more than 130 years now, eco-friendly crackers are being made using a different formula. According to a report by NDTV, flower pots have been used that make less noise and less flames are seen.

While the court has not given a clear definition of what constitutes a green firecracker, as per the ideology of the Assam Pollution Control Board, these crackers produce less pollution in comparison to the other usual crackers.

The manufacturers of the green firecrackers, as a result, are hopeful to raise five-fold of their income this year, according to the NDTV report. Though some infrastructure has been provided to the government of Assam to make the crackers, the shift from hand to machine is yet to be initiated.
