Kolkata artist lands in trouble after this artwork

Kolkata: A Mumbai-based artist created an artwork of the goddess which came into heavy criticism. Aniket Mitra’s artwork is that of a sanitary pad which has a bloodied lotus on it. Around it is a “chalchitro“, a decorative piece that adorns Goddess Durga in the background.

He released this artwork on social media which went viral and he received several threats for this and was highly criticised.

“If this was south India, people would have already chopped off his hands. We Bengalis are extremely tolerant but this is an insult to our Maa Durga and we won’t tolerate it,” commented a user on the post.

“People still fear to accept the truth, kudos to you for such a thought. Stay fearless,” another man commented on the post. The post was shared for over 4000 times in just 24 hours on Facebook.

The step was taken after his sister and wife were not allowed to attend Durga Puja festival during menstruation. Through his post, he wanted to aware people so that no woman is left out to attend the auspicious festival due to menstruation.
