Rewari rape case: SIT arrests three people including main accused, Nishu Phogat

The Special Investigating Team (SIT) arrested three people, including one of the main accused, Nishu Phogat, on Sunday in the Rewari gang rape case in which the girl, Haryana CBSE topper was allegedly abducted and gang raped by the three when she was going to her coaching centre in Kanina town of district Mahendragarh on September 12.

SIT head Nazneen Bhasin said, “We are very proud to inform that within 30 hours, two accused have been arrested and the main accused has been nabbed, and is on his way. The two accused arrested are Deen Dayal – the owner of the the tube well, where the crime took place, and Dr. Sanjeev, whose involvement has been found as per evidences.

“The main accused, Nishu Phogat had organised the scene of crime and was the one who called the doctor. Nishu’s role was that he organised the place and also was involved in the gangrape. Of the three names in the FIR, one has been nabbed, and we are certain that the other two will be nabbed soon.”

The SIT officer further added, “Investigation is still on and will go long. The victim says the involvement of other people, we are not ruling that out. All 3 men in custody will be produced in court tomorrow. We will be applying for the doctor’s remand. Pankaj is absconding but we are looking out for him. A vehicle has been recovered.”

Earlier on Saturday, the police SIT that was constituted, almost three days after the incident, made its first arrest- though not of the main accused. After interrogating almost a hundred people, the SIT, led by SP Nazneen Bhasin, had arrested the owner of the tube-well where the rape was committed on charges of criminal conspiracy.

An FIR had been named against Pankaj, Manish and Nishu as the three co-accused in the case. In the contents filed in the FIR, the phone numbers of all the three individuals were available, along with the other details, indicating how the cops did not react on time despite having all the needed information.
