Just experienced a break up? 6 ways to overcome the agony

Date:

There is nothing as emotionally trying as going through a break up in a relationship. How much ever a person tries to hide the ‘real’ feelings, there is no situation as tough as a break up.

Yes, you can bad mouth the person, moan and lament at losing that one perfect person in your life, but none of this will in reality get you back together.
The pangs of pain are humongous and the only way of getting out of the misery, is to move on. Meeting friends, accepting the feeling and deriving new plans for your future can be ways of moving on.
Like any other addictive habit, love is also addictive and when heart broken, the withdrawal symptoms are natural.
Let’s look at some options that can help a broken heart from the angst of losing a loved one.

Be balanced –
If your mind invokes images of your happiest weekend together, then balance it with experiences of those weekends which were full of fights.
If you cry because memories remind you of the wonderful evenings you spent together, then counter it with images of you trying to reach the person for hours.
This helps you understand that this had been building up for a while and you are not to be blamed for it.

Feelings are to be accepted –
Acknowledge your feelings. Anger, sorrow, hurt, betrayal – these are some emotions that come out as a mixed bag during a break up. Label them. Don’t avoid or suppress them. It helps you challenge your negative thoughts.

Social Media is a big No –
Cut your ex out completely. Do not check their social media. Cut off all contact for real. Seeing your ex, even if it’s on social media, will only burden you with more sorrow. It is tough, but a strong resolve can help.

Learn from mistakes –
You definitely don’t want to repeat the same mistakes again. Write down all the aspects that you thought went wrong. This will help you to clear your mind and be better prepared for another relationship.

Get back to life’s joys –
Restart with indulging in your long-lost hobbies, sport etc. Reach out to friends. Having someone trusted to listen to you and indulge in an activity with you is the best way to move forward.

Makover works –
Get a new hairstyle, buy new clothes, change the home setting – do something! Put the focus on a gainful change rather than a loss.
Rediscover yourself. Its important for your self-esteem.

A break up isn’t ever easy. It’s the perspective that you adopt that helps you sail through. A tear stained face or a smiling demeanour, an angry loser or a positive and a futuristic human being. Think through and create a future full of opportunities. Looking back should not be an option.
