Customer finds worm in veg biryani; fine of Rs 11,500 on IKEA

Date:

The newly opened IKEA store in Hyderabad was left embarrassed after a customer allegedly found a worm in the store’s in-house restaurant.

Abeed Mohammad took to Twitter to complain about finding a caterpillar in the vegetable biryani served to him, prompting the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) to issue a notice to the firm.

Apologising for the unfortunate experience, IKEA tweeted,’We apologize for the unfortunate experience. We are investigating the matter and will take immediate corrective action. At IKEA, we have the strictest guidelines when it comes to food quality as customer health and safety are something we care about deeply.’

‘Notices were issued to IKEA and the snack firm, seeking details on the food prepared and ingredients used within seven days, the GHMC official told PTI. The civic body has also imposed a fine of Rs 11,500 of the Swedish furniture giant’s first Indian store.

IKEA launched its first Indian outlet last month which also has a 1,000-seater restaurant serving a wide range of food items consisting of staples from Swedish and Indian cuisine.
