Rampal led India to win the silver medal earlier on Friday. Indian women’s hockey team made their first final in 20 years but ended up losing to Japan 1-2.
Many of India’s athletes have returned back home after the competition, the choice of the flag-bearer depends on the availability of the athletes.
Javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra, who went on to win the gold medal, was India’s flag-bearer at the opening ceremony.
