Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) on Sunday issued warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall in Odisha and Uttar Pradesh.
There is also a prediction of heavy rain at isolated places over states of Uttarakhand, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura.
Several parts of Odisha, particularly the western and interior regions, received heavy rain on Sunday due to a low pressure over the Bay of Bengal with the Meteorological centre in Bhubaneswar forecasting more showers for the next 48 hours.
Due to the low pressure, there would be heavy rainfall in Puri, Ganjam, Khurda, Cuttack, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Kalahandi, Boudh, Sonepur and Sundargarh districts in the next 24 hours, says Met office.
Similarly, extremely heavy rainfall is on cards in Dhenkanal, Angul, Deogarh, Sambalpur, Balangir, Jharsuguda, Bargarh and Keonjhar districts till August 28 it said.
The Met centre advised fishermen not to venture into the sea along and off Odisha coast and north-west Bay of Bengal. Those who have gone for deep sea fishing have been asked to return to the coast.
Heavy rainfall also likely to lash several parts of other states including Gangetic West Bengal, Jharkhand, Konkan, Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, Telangana, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Coastal and South Interior Karnataka.
