The Southern Railways dispatched a water special train- 7 BRN wagons with syntax tank carrying 2.8 lakh liters of water on Friday afternoon from Erode Junction to help the flood-affected people in Kerala.
Around 2740 cartons were dispatched from Parassala’s Rail Neer plant, while six trucks loaded with drinking water have already been pressed into service. The water bound running to Thiruvananthapuram covered Dindigul, Madurai, and Tirunelveli on its way.
According to reports, another special train carrying 15 BRN wagons is expected to run from Erode. In addition, the Railway has made necessary arrangements in case of emergency situations in the state. 10,000 cubic boxes of water bottles will be loaded at Parasala plant. They will be dispatched after the instructions of the additional chief secretary of Kerala.
The officials of Kerala State Government directed the Senior Divisional Commercial Manager in Palakkad to coordinate further dispatch of drinking water for those affected.
Kerala has been witnessing acute flood situation since past few days owing to incessant rain. So far, 324 people have lost their lives in the state due to flood, according to a tweet by the Chief Minister Office (CMO) of Kerala.
