This season of MasterChef Australia has seen a new champion – Sashi Cheliah, a prison guard from Adelaide. In the 10th season of the reality television show, the winner secured 93 points out of 100 and defeated the semi-finalist Ben Borsht at 77 out of 100.
The 39-year old champion began his journey in culinary from Singapore where he began with helping his mother to run her cafe. Having his roots from Madurai in Tamil Nadu, Cheliah was born and brought up in Singapore and gained diverse culinary experience. He served as an officer in the Police Force of Singapore for a decade and then got transferred to Adelaide, about eight years back.
Sashi served at a women’s prison as the prison officer in Adelaide, Australia before contesting for MasterChef Australia 2018. On the show, he exhibited his skills in mimicking and churning out Indian, Chinese, and Malay specialities.
Sashi started off with the sambal prawns starter and secured 30 points followed by the fish curry that got him 27 points. On the other hand, Ben was defeated with 41 points. The second round witnessed a great cook-off, however, the victory in the first round for Sashi made him win it as well.
A victory amount of $250,000 along with the Australia trophy was awarded to Sashi Cheliah and the Ben Borsht got a cash prize of $40,000. Cheliah took to his social media handles to thank people for their support and votes and mentioned his next plans as well.

The premier of MasterChef Australia is scheduled for September 10 on Star World channel. It will be aired at 9 pm from Monday to Friday.
