After the first season of Netflix’s Indian original ‘Sacred Games’ people can’t wait for the second season. The series is an adaptation of the 2006 thriller novel of the same name by Vikram Chandra.
While several characters popped up in Ganesh Gaitonde’s (Nawazuddin Siddiqui) story, one of the more prominent was Guruji portrayed by Pankaj Tripathi. Gaitonde referred to him as his third father but termed him as the man who stabbed him behind his back, details of which were not revealed in season one. However, the character appeared in a cameo in a few episodes, and it was suggested that he may become more prominent in the future.
Pankaj Tripathi has a long history of working with co-director Anurag Kashyap, most prominently in the Gangs of Wasseypur films. He has also delivered a powerful performance in the Rajkumar Rao-starrer Newton and recent hits like Bareilly Ki Barfi.
In an interview with Mid-day, Pankaj said that Guruji will become a pivotal character in the show’s future. He had also said that his character will become as big as Gaitonde and will become the most sought-after character in the series.

Essentially, the character of Guruji is the thread that brings together the two predominant characters of the show, Gaitonde and inspector Sartaj Singh (Saif Ali Khan).
Taking about his bond with Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Pankaj Tripathi said that Nawaz and he lived in the same hostel at the NSD (National School Of Drama) and that they admire each other’s work. He also said that since they come from the same acting background, their approach to work is similar. The actor further added that they have been taught by the same people and whenever they meet they hardly talk about work, instead reminisce about the old times.
In an interview with HT, Anurag Kashyap also stated that Guruji will become a central character in the future. Saif has said that we can expect four seasons of eight episodes each. Since the first season left the viewers curious, almost everyone is waiting in anticipation for the second season.
