Govt concerned over mob lynching incidents: Rajnath Singh in LS

After being cornered by the opposition parties in the parliament on Tuesday on the increase in mob lynching across the country and most recently in Alwar, where police apathy allegedly led to the death of the victim, the union home minister said in the Lok Sabha that the government is concerned about the mob lynching incidents.

“We have set up a high level committee to look at ways to stop these incidents…We are thoughtful about this. This didn’t start only recently, the incidents of lynching have been going on since years. I have said this earlier too, the biggest mob lynching is, what happened in 1984” said Rajnath Singh, the minister of home affairs, in the parliament.

Almost all main opposition parties raised the issue in the lower house on Tuesday. Speaking for the Congress Mallikarjun Kharge said that the centre should set up a Supreme Court monitored probe into the lynchings, while the AIADMK said that all states must maintain law and order.

Meanwhile, he said if state govt recommends this, we will consider a CBI inquiry, Singh said while in replying to Congress MP Ranjeet Ranjan demand for a CBI inquiry over the incidents of rape at shelter home in Bihar’s Muzaffarpur.
