Patna: Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) on Monday expelled its spokesperson Shankar Charan Tripathi from the party after he criticised Rahul Gandhi for hugging Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the Lok Sabha.

Congress president Rahul Gandhi, on Friday, ended his speech during the No-Confidence Motion and walked across to give Prime Minister Modi a hug.

Tripathi censured the Congress president’s act of hugging and later winking on the floor of the House.

The Bharatiya Janata Party and its leaders lambasted Gandhi for hugging the prime minister, even as the moment became the front page news of leading Indian dailies the next day.

The Congress party is an ally of the RJD in Bihar.
