Woman forced to sleep under Nikah Halala with father-in-law, brother-in-law

Date:

While the Supreme Court was preparing itself for the arguments on Nikah Halala, another case of multiple divorces and re-marriages has opened up in Lucknow.

A woman named Shabina who hails from Bareilly had been receiving threat calls of being killed and declared an outcast from the community people when she tried to rebel against the practice.

When she was asked to narrate the incidents with her, she said that her husband had given her instant divorce initially. After that, however,  she was forced to marry her father-in-law under the Nikah Halala practice and then re-marry her first husband after getting a divorce from her father-in-law.

But this was not all, after re-marrying the first husband she was again given a divorce and this time she was compelled to marry her brother-in-law that was her husband’s brother. That is when she took a stand and defended herself.

She went up to Nida Khan who had been another victim under Nikah Halala and also tried to rebel against the practice. Both of them joined hands and went to the media to report their condition.

Now the complaints have been filed in the local police station in spite of receiving death threats. They also said that the local officials told them that “people who do not follow Shariat are automatically considered outcasts” and those who raise their voice against Shariat will face dire consequences.

Opposing the allegations, Shekhar Imam Mufti Khurshid Alam said that these are just random statements people are giving to negate the practice of Triple Talaq and Halala and the purpose of this is to gain attention from the media.

Now, the decision is over to the Supreme Court based on the pleas and petitions in regards to Nikah Halala as well as Polygamy July 20 onwards.
