Making pakoras inside JNU college campus cost students a huge fine

The prestigious Jawaharlal Nehru University in South Delhi is a college that is known for its exceptional education and courses. But, here, there is something else that was going on in the premises.

Manish Kumar Meena, an M.Phil student hails from Rajasthan and was spotted making pakoras with a group of his fellow students and was fined a sum of Rs. 20,000 and a warning to change his hostel within ten days.

The student studies at the Centre of Indian Languages, and in protest of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s pakora comments was making pakoras inside the campus with a group of four friends.

The first round of inquiry was conducted by the chief proctor of the college, followed by a notice sent to him with a charge of Rs. 20,000 as a fine on the grounds of misconduct and additionally, he was asked to change his hostel by July 13.

This notice and action against Meena have landed him in trouble as he does not have money to pay the fine and has to submit his papers before July 21.

Manish said that in the notice there was no mention of changing the hostel and further said that he has papers that he needs to appear for and if collecting money for the fine will take up a lot of his time. Upon no consideration from the college, he is all set to take legal help to resolve the matter.

He has admitted to the fact that he was making fritters in the college and has retaliated saying that he had every right to protest as long as he did not damage any public property.
