The Congress on Sunday launched a sharp attack on PM Modi’s comment while he was addressing a gathering while laying the foundation stone of the Purvanchal Expressway in Azamgarh, Uttar Pradesh on Saturday, attacked the opposition party, Congress, by questioning the Congress over its stand on triple talaq, asking if the opposition party belongs only to the Muslim men.
The Congress said that he was a “peddler of untruths” with a “sick mentality”. “The prime minister has continuously hurt the dignity of his office. We strictly oppose what he said yesterday(Saturday). It shows his sick mentality and twisted mindset,” senior Congress spokesperson Anand Sharma said.
“There is an attempt by him to divide society… His main opposition, the INC, led the national movement, spearheaded the fight for independence… to call it a Muslim party does not behove a PM. His sick mindset is an issue of national concern. The prime minister gives out statements which are wrong as per history and facts,” Mr Sharma said, calling the Prime Minister a “peddler of untruths”.
Saying the Prime Minister had “less knowledge of history and writes his own history”, the Congress leader said PM Modi needs to be reminded that Congress presidents such as Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, Sardar Patel, Lala Lajpat Rai, and Maulana Azad were iconic leaders. The Congress, he said, was a party “for all Indians and respects the diversity the country has to offer”.
Meanwhile, on Monday BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra cited an Urdu newspaper clipping saying that the Congress minority cell chief has confirmed that Congress Party President Rahul Gandhi had said that Congress is a ‘Muslim Party’.
Taking to Twitter he wrote, “In an interview to, इंक़लाब, Congress’ Minority Cell President Nadeem Javed has reiterated that Rahul Gandhi was right in saying “हाँ,हम मुसलमानों की पार्टी है” Mr Javed further said Rahul Gandhi is meeting Muslim अकलियत and very soon he will be presiding over a Muslim Convention”

On Sunday, Arvind Kejriwal slammed the BJP Government and said that the centre had achieved nothing if Prime Minister Narendra Modi was talking about the “Hindu-Muslim” issue after four years in office. “If Modi is talking about Hindu-Muslims even after four years, it means his government has achieved nothing,” Mr Kejriwal said at the Aam Aadmi Party’s state-level convention in Indore.
