Starbucks, Hyatt to discontinue plastic straws globally by 2020

Starbucks has announced to ban plastic straws at all outlets across the globe fearing the environmental threat to the earth and water. This shift will be seen in about two years from now.

It is one of the largest food and beverage companies to move towards this step globally and is setting an example for some other brands too.

In a report, Starbucks stated that they are making strawless lids which will be available at 8000 stores starting in the USA and Canada for a few drinks, to begin with.

The company expects to reduce the use of single-use plastic by eliminating almost 1 billion plastic straws in one year.

With Starbucks venturing into this step, another giant chain McDonald’s is also adhering to this condition and plans to ditch all single-use plastic products such as straws, cups and bags.

The Hyatt group of hotels also joins the league of eliminating single-use plastic in the form of straws and drink picks. These items will be given only if asked by the guests as a step to go eco-friendly.
