The Ghaziabad district officials are positive about starting the regional flights from Ghaziabad from this October.
The base will be used for regional flights under the scheme of regional connectivity of the Union Civil Aviation Ministry. This scheme is expected to offer some sort of relief to the over-populated Delhi airport.
Ritu Maheshwari, the district magistrate of Ghaziabad has been elected at the nodal officer to take the decisions that need to be integrated for the success of the project.
According to her, the MOU has been sent to the state government which is now to be signed between the Uttar Pradesh government and the Airports Authority of India that would roll out the real work for the completion of the project.
Several cities including Allahabad, Agra, Bareilly, Lucknow, and Hindon will be operating flights to different cities like Kerala, Karnataka, Maharashtra, and Uttarakhand.
Four regional flight routes have been listed by the civil aviation ministry under the Udan scheme by the central government. The routes include Hubli, Kannur, Ozar, and Pithoragarh from Hindon.
A vast expanse of land will be required for the development of terminal facilities in Sahibabad, near the airbase and the UP government and Airport Authorities of India have decided that they will give out Rs. 200 per square metre to the farmers in exchange of the land.
