Real Madrid stars that are making a difference in this World Cup

Date:

The current version of FIFA World Cup has showcased a lot of talented players making their mark for their respective teams. However, the star players from the Champions League winners Real Madrid have shown exceptional talent till now. Let it be Ronaldo leading Portugal against Spain and Morocco or Luka Modric scoring the ultimate long-range shot for Croatia against Argentina, Real Madrid players have stepped up and delivered for their teams. Let us have a look at Real Madrid’s fabulous five so far in World Cup.

Cristiano Ronaldo: The usual suspect, Ronaldo is in charge of the Portugal WC campaign and quite clearly the Portuguese strategy revolves around the maestro only.

With the Euro 2016 trophy in their kitty, the Portuguese are flying high on confidence with a crucial Ronaldo-infused draw against Spain and the one goal victory against Morocco. Ronaldo has scored all the four goals for Portugal so far, a grim reminder of how important he will be for the team in this World Cup.

Luka Modric: The Croatian Captain has lived most of his Real Madrid career in Ronaldo’s shadow, but the experts of the game and Real Madrid fans have always hailed their charismatic midfielder.

He is an incredible playmaker who always dazzles the fans with his pinpoint accurate passes, crosses and free kicks. He doesn’t get many chances to score, but when he does get any, Modric seldom fails to impress. His exceptional skill was evident in Croatia’s third goal against Argentina when he scored home an incredible long-range goal.

Toni Kroos: The promising German talent plays an important part in Real’s and Germany’s midfield. His ability with set pieces makes him a valuable asset for any team.

Germany had a very rocky start to their campaign losing the opening game against Mexico and then going 1-0 down against the Swedes in the first half. Germany equalised in the second half but even a draw would have seen them out of this World Cup. In the last 30 seconds of the game, Germany got a set piece outside the box and Toni Kroos shot to fame with a perfect strike with little assistance from Marco Reus, thus saving Germany’s World Cup campaign to see another day.

Sergio Ramos: The Real Madrid and Spain Captain has always been a prominent figure for both his teams since a very long time.

Recently, he was heavily criticised for his challenge on Mohd. Salah in Champions League Final just ahead of the World Cup. Controversy has always hounded the Spaniard in his more than a decade-long career. Spain has fared well till now, with a draw and victory against Portugal and Iran respectively.

Nacho: He is a relatively unheard talent in this bunch but he has shown an exceptional talent for both Real Madrid and Spain. His strike against Portugal that gave the Spaniards a short-lived lead was mind-blowing and could end up as the Best Goal of the World Cup.
