More than 11,000 students take admission in DU; six times over 2017

Date:

More than 11,000 students took admission in various colleges of the Delhi University after the first cut-off list was posted, almost six times more than 2017. The last day for completing the admission process under the the first-cut-offs was Thursday. Last year, only 2,201 students had completed the admission process under the first list.

The second cut-off is expected on June 24 and the officials are expecting a huge rush at the time.

According to media reports a university official said that of the total 56,000 seats, over had been 11,000 filled by Thursday a record-breaking number. Colleges had approved around 16,000 admissions of which 11,000 students had paid up fees by 7.30 pm on Thursday. Admission is not complete till fee payment is made. As students had time to pay fee till Friday noon, the final figure tally could be significantly higher than 11,000.

The maximum admissions were at Hindu, Kamla Nehru College, Miranda House, Lady Sri Ram College for Women and Shaheed Bhagat Singh College, said the reports.

These colleges may not issue a second list for popular courses, and even if they do, the cutoff is not expected to drop by more than a percentage point.

Online admission for various undergraduate courses started on May 15. The registration for these courses ended on June 7.

The top courses were BCom (Hons) in which 1401 seats were filled, followed by BA (Programme) in which 1,371 seats were filled, with the third most popular course being BA (Hons) Political Science where 1,004 seats were filled. The other top courses were BA (Hons) History where 819 seats were filled and BCom where 807 seats were filled, the data stated, said media reports.

On June 19, which was Day 1 of the admissions, the Delhi University’s server came under severe pressure and the DigiLocker, a government-owned public cloud storage where certificates and documents were stored, was not integrated with the varsity portal.

The second day and the third day of the admissions went smoothly, said officials.
