Skyrocketing Cut off in DU’s first list

New Delhi: The Delhi University has announced the first cut-off list for the admissions to undergraduate courses for the year 2018-19 at their official website on Monday evening.

As per the list, the cut-off for the Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC) BA Economics (Honours) saw a marginal increase of 0.25 per cent from the previous year. This year, a general category student, seeking admission to the BA Economics (Honours), would need 98.50% marks. Last year, the cutoff for this course was 98.25%.

The highest jump has also been recorded in BA Sanskrit (Hons) at Kirori Mal College with a 10% point increase. Among Science subjects, Physics has been the most popular course, with the cut-off touching 98% in Hindu college.

 

The admission process for the first cut-off will be held from Tuesday to Thursday (both days inclusive) from 9.30am to 1.30pm for morning colleges and 4pm to 7pm for evening colleges.

The university has also declared that this time around, there will be only five cutoff lists:

Once the admission has been approved at the college, the applicant must log on to DU UG admission portal and pay the fees online. The payment of fees can be done until Thursday noon. The second cut-off will be released on Monday next week (June 25).

As per the first cutoff list released by DU the B.A. English (Honours) cut off for the Hansraj College for this year is 97.25%. For B.A. Economics (Honours) the cut off is 98%.

 

There will be a centralised counselling list after the fifth one is declared, where the university will try to fill the vacant seats.

DU has also decided to share the cutoffs of various colleges with principals, allowing them to make changes to their respective lists after analysing the trends. The colleges have till 6 pm on Monday to assess the data.

Out of near 2.8 lakh students who applied for undergraduate courses this year, 126,327 chose English as their preferred course, followed distantly by B.A. (Programme) at 105,818 and Political Science at 105,590 applications.

Economics and History were the other courses for which the number of applications ran over 90,000.

The number for those applying for B.Com and B.Com (Honors) was 85,791 and 74,921, respectively.

The most applications among the science courses were gathered by Mathematics, closely followed by Physics and Computer Science. More than 70,000 students opted for these three courses.

Vocational courses like Tourism and Human Resource Management, along with Philosophy and Applied Psychology were among the least popular courses, managing just above one-third of what was attracted by the most popular.
