SC refuses stay on release of ‘Kaala’; Rajinikanth appeals to Kumaraswamy for security at theatres

Date:

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Wednesday refused to entertain a plea, seeking the stay on the release of Rajinikanth-starrer ‘Kaala’.

A vacation bench of the apex court, headed by Justice Adarsh Kumar Goel and also comprising Justice Ashok Bhushan, stated it did not find any merit in the application, filed by K. Rajasekhara.

The Top Court, while refusing to stay the film, said, “Everybody is waiting for the film to be released. We don’t want to interfere with its release.”

Meanwhile, actor-turned-politician Rajinikanth made an appeal to Karnataka Chief Minister Kumaraswamy to provide security at theatres. Rajinikanth, who made an appeal in Kannada, said it is not right for the Karnataka Films Chamber to demand ban on the film.

On Tuesday, Kumaraswamy opposed the release of the movie saying, given the “atmosphere of the state” the movie should not be released.

“I have to implement whatever direction given by the High Court. That I will take care. That is my responsibility also. We have to follow the High Court judgment…direction. But according to my observation, as an individual, as a Kannadaiga, I request the producer of the movie or distributor of the movie… in this kind of atmosphere it is not good on their part to release the movie, according to me. Even if they release the movie, I know, I’m an experienced person. I am also a film distributor and producer. It will not be useful to them financially. Why by releasing the movie they want to create a controversy? After we get a solution in this water issue then they can release anytime,” said Kumaraswamy.
