BJP slams Arundhati Roy after her ‘Anti India’ comments

Date:

Arundhati Roy, an Indian author, was slammed by the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) after her controversial interview to the UK media where she talked about the mishappenings in India. After which BJP spokesperson Dr Sambit Patra slammed Roy and took it to Twitter saying that she is putting down India on a global platform.

In the interview, an excerpt of which has gone viral has Arundhati Roy saying minorities in India are suffering under the leadership of PM Narendra Modi, adding, “The violence in India is terrifying.”

“You’re looking at a situation where the Muslim community has been ghettoised. You’re looking at people being lynched on the streets. You’re looking and them being pushed out of an economic activity they participated in earlier, you know, meat shops, leather work, handicrafts, all of this is under assault. The violence in India is terrifying. You all must have followed the rape of the little girl in Kashmir. That happened but thousands of people marched in support of the rapists including women, in support of the alleged rapists, let’s say. But the point is there was an attempt how that trial was going to take place. So the polarisation is so frightening,” said Roy.

She then goes a step ahead and draws a comparison between US President Donald Trump and PM Modi, saying,

“The difference is that Trump look at Trump, I mean he’s out of control, but all the institutions are so worried about him, you know, the media is worried, the judiciary is worried, the military is worried, people are trying to manage him. Whereas in India all the elite institutions have been in some ways taken over by this.”

“So you have textbooks, I mean the New York Times did a story, school textbooks of great world leaders with Hitler on the cover. You have four Supreme Court judges who came out, the senior most judge below the chief justice who came out, it’s never happened in India. They came out and held a press conference and said democracy is in danger, the courts are being fixed. That was what they were implying,” she added.

Arundhati Roy’s appalling statement comes at a time when a nationwide crackdown is happening across the country against the anti-India gang. It was earlier in the day when 5 people with Maoist-link were arrested in connection with the Bhima-Koregaon violence.
