Sensex closes below 35,000, Nifty under 10,600

Benchmark indices fell for the second straight day on Tuesday as investor turned cautious ahead of the Reserve Bank of India’s policy statement on Wednesday.

The 30-share BSE Sensex ended 108.68 points lower at 34,903.21, while the Nifty 50 ended 35.35 points down at 10,593.15.

The PMI data, which showed that India’s services activity contracted for the first time in three months in May, as new business orders stagnated and cost pressure intensified amid higher fuel prices, was a drag on investor sentiment.
