Cramped NCERT syllabus to be reduced, says govt

The government has decided to reduce the syllabus of the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT), by half as it is cramped. This will have nation wide impact as around 19 school boards from 14 states adopt or adapt these books. More than 18,000 schools around the country follow NCERT books.

“The Union Human Resource Development(HRD) Ministry has decided to reduce the NCERT syllabus by half as it is ‘cramped’, said HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar on Saturday.

He said that alongside studies  a child needs physical education, life skills and value-based education.

The draft of the new National Education Policy is expected to be tabled before the Union Cabinet by the end of this month.
