Ten year old goes around the world to protect the environment

Date:

With the World Environment Day coming round the corner, we recognize a 10 year olds heartily contribution to the environment, where she travelled 1000 kilometres (620 miles) to clean up coastlines. There is no doubt that environmental activists are showing up in an age as young as 10. Lily Platt was encouraged to do such a noble task for the world after a whale died by ingesting 30 plastic bags. The 10 year old is playing a major role in a massive beach clean-up and has been called to attend a plastic waste conference. She goes out of her way and plans to travel from Holland to the Norwegian coast, leaving the number of miles unnoticed. Lily will be joined by her mother and grandfather and they will join volunteers at the ‘Plastic Whale Coastal Clean-up and Conference’ on the Norwegian island of Sotra.

This rally is being done in the memory of the so called ‘plastic whale’, a Cuvier’s whale that died on the Norwegian coast last year. After hearing about this whale, Lily was determined to clean up ocean pollution. Lily expressed her strong feelings for the environment by saying, “I started picking up rubbish after seeing the effect that it had on wildlife, and I knew that every piece I picked up, was one less piece that could harm a living creature.” As well as helping to clean up the island’s coastline, the youngster will be attending a high-profile conference on plastic waste, along with key figures in the environmental movement from around the world discussing the rising problem and how to protect coastlines from further pollution. Having been involved in many plastic pick-ups in recent years, Lilly has been chosen as a Youth Ambassador for the Plastic Pollution Coalition, and a Child Ambassador for HOW Global.
