
Scores of mourners, including actors Eddie Redmayne and Felicity Jones, lined the streets of Cambridge, UK, for the funeral of theoretical physicist Stephen Hawking yesterday.
Eddie Redmayne, who gave an address at the service, played Professor Hawking in the 2014 film ‘The Theory of Everything’ which had fetched him the Best Actor Academy Award for his performance as a young Hawking.
Felicity Jones had played his wife, Jane Hawking.
A host of famous faces from showbiz to businessmen showed up at Hawking’s funeral, who died peacefully at his home on 14 March, at the age of 76.
The scientist was mourned by his children Robert, Lucy and Timothy, and they were joined at the funeral by guests including playwright Alan Bennett, businessman Elon Musk and model Lily Cole.
Hawking’s ashes will be interred at Westminster Abbey later in the year, where it will rest among some of the greatest scientists in history including, Isaac Newton and Charles Darwin.
Hawking’s work ranged from the origins of the universe itself, through time travel and probing black holes in space.
He achieved international renown after the publication of “A Brief History of Time” in 1988.
