Delhi Metro’s Pink Line introduced, removes North-South divide

Delhi Metro’s Pink Line is thrown open to the public today. The network connects Majlis Park (North Campus) to Durgabai Deskmukh South Campus section.

As per reports, the travel time for Delhi Metro’s Pink Line is 34 minutes. Formally, the corridor is flagged off from the Metro Bhawan by Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs (Independent Charge) Hardeep Singh Puri in presence of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. Trains will begin plying on the stretch from 6 pm.

A DMRC official told PTI that the with the Pink Line, the Delhi Metro’s operational network spans nearly 252 km. The new corridor is seen as a major relief for Delhi University students and also for the people residing along the Ring Road, including Punjabi Bagh, Wazirabad and Shalimar Bagh.

The Pink Line includes 12 stations, is part of the Majlis Park-Shiv Vihar corridor of Delhi Metro Phase 3. Stops include Majlis Park, Azadpur, Shalimar Bagh, Netaji Subhash Place, Shakurpur, Punjabi Bagh West, ESI Hospital, Rajouri Garden, Mayapuri, Naraina Vihar, Delhi Cantt and Durgabai Deshmukh South Campus.

Some facts about the Pink Line:

  • The new corridor is about 21.56 km
  • It has eight elevated and four underground stations
  • The stations are equipped with platform-screen doors
  • The ticket price has been fixed at Rs 50 for the Vishwavidyalaya-Durgabai Deshmukh South Campus stretch
  • The Pink Line has three interchange stations — Azadpur for Yellow line, Netaji Subhash Place for Red Line and Rajouri Garden for Blue Line
