Karti Chidambaram, son of former Finance Minister P Chidambaram, has demanded VVIP treatment inside jail a few days after he was arrested in connection with the INX Media Case.

In a rather shocking statement, Karti said that he and his father are a member of the Congress Party and therefore requires these essentials.

Here are a few of the demands made by Karti Chidambaram:

  • Separate prison cell
  • Separate bathroom
  • Home food
  • Books
  • Medicines
  • Clothes
  • Toiletries and spectacles

Karti’s Counsel also argued that his life might be under threat since multiple terrorists who were prosecuted during his father’s tenure as the Home Minister may also be in the same jail.

Earlier, Karti Chidambaram had also asked for first class treatment moments after the Patiala Court said that he will be in police custody until 6 March 2018. Sources claimed that right after the judge pronounced the order, Karti Chidambaram threatened the CBI officials and said ‘Watch out, I’ll show you when I come to power.’

Sources also claimed that Karti’s demands did not end there and he proceeded to allegedly asked if he could have a menu of his choice while in police custody. Karti Chidambaram also refused to remove his gold chain and rings and said that the jewellry was worn for religious reasons.

The CBI on Monday produced Karti Chidambaram, former Union minister P Chidambaram’s son, in a Delhi court after his three-day police custody in the INX Media corruption case expired and sought 15 days judicial custody.

Karti Chidambaram was produced in the court of Special Judge Sunil Rana, before whom CBI counsel V K Sharma moved an application for judicial custody of the senior Congress leader’s son.

However, Karti Chidambaram’s counsel moved the court to hear his bail plea on Monday itself which was otherwise listed on March 15.
