Maharashtra senior Congress leader Patangrao Kadam dies at 73

Maharashtra senior Congress leader Patangrao Kadam passed away on Friday in Lilavati hospital in Mumbai. The 73-year-old politician breathed his last at around 10 pm.

Patangrao is considered to be an influential and powerful leader in Maharashtra politics, who was well-known as a staunch Congressman. His son Vishwajeet Kadam is a leader of the Youth Congress wing.

Patangrao had held key portfolios in Maharashtra. He had served the people being the minister of co-operative, a post of great political significance in Maharashtra, and also a forest minister.

Former Congress president Sonia Gandhi paid a visit at Lilavati hospital on Friday evening to know about Patangrao’s health.

While Sonia visited the hospital, Mahrashtra Congress president and former Maharashtra CM Ashok Chavan and AICC general secretary Mohan Prakash accompanied her.

Patangrao was admitted to the hospital on March 3rd. As per reports, Patangrao Kadam’s mortal remains will be flown back to his native village in Sangli district in Maharashtra where he will be cremated tomorrow.

Besides being a prominent political leader in Maharashtra, Kadam was known for the quality educational institutes he set up. He set up Bharati deemed University which has campuses across India and even abroad.

Maharashtra Congress chief Ashok Chavan described Patangrao’s demise as a ‘huge loss to Congress and Maharashtra’.
