Legendary actress Sridevi had mastered in every genre ranging from romance to comedy to satire – she has mastered it all. She was a courageous actress and did roles which many actors now wouldn’t think of doing it today.

In 1993, Sridevi said no to Steven Spielberg who was making Jurassic Park and intended to cast her in a small role in the film. She thought that the role in Jurassic Park wouldn’t do any justice to her stature as an actor. Such was the Hawa Hawai girl – Sridevi. There are very few like her in the industry. Himmatwala (1983)

Sridevi was cast opposite Jeetendra in the film Himmatwala, which was directed by K. Raghavendra, that went on to become a superhit film. The film showcased Sridevi’s versatility as an actress and gave her all the fame to start with. However, Solva Sawan marked her as a lead actor in Bollywood. The film had made close to Rs 12 crore at the box office.

Sadma (1983)

The film Sadma, which was directed by Balu Mahendra, showed Sridevi as a startling performer. She played the role of a girl who after an accident regresses into childhood and was paired opposite Kamal Haasan. The film went on to make Rs 2 crore at the box office, and left an impact with not just the actor’s performance but also blockbuster songs like ‘Ae Zindagi Gale Laga le’ and ‘Surmayi Akhiyo Mein’.

Jaanbaaz (1986)

Though Sridevi played a brief role in Feroz Khan’s Jaanbaaz it is difficult for fans and anyone who watched the film to forget her for the dance number. She is still remembered for – ‘Har kisiko nahi milta yaha pyar zingdagi mein’. The film minted Rs 4 crore at the box office.

Nagina (1986)

The film became a super hit clocking close to Rs 4.75 crore at the box office. Nagina is considered a real outlandish and hilarious attempt at filmmaking nevertheless, the audience loved Sridevi as the snake woman particularly when she danced to Main Teri Dushman Dushman Tu Mera.

Mr. India (1987)

It was a super hit which made approximately Rs 5 crore at the box office. In the film, Sridevi played a role of a journalist, paired opposite Anil Kapoor, saw her in a sensuous avatar in the superhit song- Kate Nahi kat-te yeh din yeh raat.

Chaalbaaz (1989)

Sridevi, who did a double role in the film Chaalbaaz, did wonders playing both the docile and the tomboy characters. The film minted close to Rs 4 crore at the box office. The film also stars Sunny Deol and Rajnikanth who is also remembered for superhit number Najane Kaha se ayi hai.

Lamhe (1991)

In this film, Sridevi played the role of both mother and the daughter. Making close to Rs 3 crore at the box office, the film Lamhe also stars Anil Kapoor who was paired opposite Sridevi.

Judaai (1996)

This film was one of the last films Sridevi did before taking a break from the limelight. Raj Kanwar’s directorial film Judaai also stars Anil Kapoor and Urmila Matondkar in the lead that garnered Rs 14 crore at the box office.

English Vinglish (2012)

After a long sabbatical, Sridevi made a comeback with the film. Interestingly, the film English Vinglish had no hero and no item number. The actress played the role of a mother and housewife efficiently who runs a humble sweet and snack business from home. With her performance in her comeback film, Sridevi won our hearts. English Vinglish made about Rs 40 crore at the box office.
