A suspected Indian Mujahideen terrorist was arrested by the Delhi Police on Wednesday. According to a senior police officer, the suspected terrorist named Ariz Khan had been on the run since the 2008 Batla House encounter.
Delhi Police’s special arrested Khan, who was hiding at Batla House along with four others. As per reports, the terrorist had managed to escape from police during the encounter on 19 September 2008 in Delhi’s Jamia Nagar, in which two Indian Mujahideen terrorists were killed and as many arrested.
During the encounter, Inspector Mohan Chand Sharma, an encounter specialist who led the police action, was also killed. A trial court in New Delhi in July 2013 had sentenced Indian Mujahideen (IM) terrorist Shahzad Ahmed to life imprisonment in connection with the Batla House encounter case.
His appeal against the trial court’s verdict has been pending in the high court.
