New Delhi: With the Republic Day around the corner, a chaotic situation has emerged at the Indira Gandhi International Airport. At least 20 flights were diverted from Delhi airport between 7.30 am and 9 am today, due to airspace closure and low visibility. This has led to massive flight delays and cancellations.
People stuck at the airport are reacting strongly on social media:
Jetairways 9w336 DEL-Mum. Sitting inside the plane for over 2 hrs. No food for economy class. Biz class getting services. No confirmation on takeoff. @jetairways @PMO_India @ndtv @TOIIndiaNews @IndianExpress @narendramodi @nsitharaman @

This is the reason why @IndiGo6E has started thinking it can get away with anything. First a flight delay msg last night. Then at 11:30 am they say further delay due to poor visibility in Delhi? Poor visibility? Really? You have yourself landed in far worse conditions in the past

This is sheer customer apathy…every @airvistara flight I get to travel gets delayed for some rhyme or reason…today’s #884 initial delay gets transmitted 24 hours before the flight citing operational reasons & now another 2 hour delay in view of Delhi’s Fog — both false claims

Massive Fog delay at Delhi airport. In a @IndiGo6E flight for the last 2 hours. Still waiting for the fog to clear. Appreciate @IndiGo6E for serving complimentary snacks and tea/coffee to all passengers 👍

Meanwhile, over 700 flights in and out of Delhi are being cancelled between the 18th and the 26th of January, as the Indian Air Force takes over the airspace to prepare for the Republic Day flypast.
So if you are planning travel between these dates then check your flight timings beforehand. The last thing you would want are long hours at the airport or within a flight.
