South Africa crept to 173/5 (lead of 201 runs) at the lunch break. Venron Philander, 3 from 22 balls, and Faf du Plessis (12) were on the crease at the break.

Starting the day after rain had curtailed Monday’s play, AB de Villiers and Dean Elgar continued from where they had left. They kept the Indian bowlers at bay and added 141 runs for the third wicket to give a healthy advantage to their side.
