Marko Arnautovic's 6th minute winner stunned defending champions

With Manchester Derby scheduled on Sunday, defending champions Chelsea had the perfect opportunity to cover-up some points when they took on London Stadium against second-lowest ranked team West Ham United in their 16th match of the Premier League. But they were stunned by West Ham 1-0.

Trailing leader Manchester City by 11 points, they had the chance to equal Manchester United’s tally of 35 points but Marko Arnautovic gave the home crowd something to cheer in just the sixth minute of the game. A brilliantly taken left-foot shot curled into the bottom right corner to give Hammers the lead.

Chelsea, which had 70% possession of ball, tried their level best since trailing but that hardly had any bearing as David Moyes registered his first win in charge of West Ham. It was a well organised defensive display from Moyes’ men that kept the Blues at bay and they failed to get any goal despite trailing for 84 minutes.

They had 9 shots but just 2 were on target. The best chance of the match fell to Morata, who volleyed his shot on the side netting despite doing well to beat the defenders and off side traps to get his shot. Hazard also had a few chance but nothing seemed to be going Chelsea’s way.

This was Chelsea’s second loss of the season, having won 10 games and drawing 4 others. They now are at the 3rd spot in table but Liverpool have chance to pip them when they take on Everton in Merseyside derby on Sunday. A win will do for them.
