As the winter break arrives, often we get agitated as to what to do to keep our kids entertained, beyond technology. It’s chilly outside and often kids are too laid back to get up and play but if we are able to bring up some interesting games for them, life would be sorted.
So, here are some games that kids can play during the chilly season and forget about the cold and to start appreciating these vacations.
- Conduct a book reading
How often do kids read books beyond their classroom textbooks? So, utilize this winter break to have a book reading session. It could be a comic book or a Nancy Drew or even Harry Potter for the elder ones. Get them all to read the book or even a chapter together, and then have a discussion on the same. It would not only increase the quest to know and learn but will also, initiate the habit of reading among kids.
- Decorate the trees and plants
It’s of course Christmas time and kids can draw or make crafty designs to decorate and spread some cheer to the nature. All of the kids can make it a game and see who decorates it well, or all of them can do it together as well, that would increase their will to work in groups.
- Kick the can
This game is a variation of tag and hide & seek. One person or a team of people are designated as “it” and a can is placed in the middle of the playing area. The other people run off and hide while the “it” covers his or her eyes and counts to a certain number. “It” then tries to find everyone. If a person is tagged by “it”, they go into a holding pen for captured players. If one of the un-captured players manages to kick the can, the captured players are released.
This one is for the ones that wish to play on the playground and spread some cheer around!
- Go on an alphabet hunt
One will say an alphabet and you have to search for 5 things in your surroundings that start with that alphabet, the first one to find it will win a gift, that can be decided in advance.
It will generate the energy and reduce the lethargy that all of us have during the winter season.
- Play the all time favourite Simon Says!
It can be played both indoors as well as outdoors, the choice is yours kids! One person will be the simon and will give his orders saying, simon says do this, and we all have to do it.
It’s been an all time favourite since a while now and we can play it anytime and anywhere and it would be the most intriguing pass time ever.
- Collect the clothes you don’t wear and make a masterpiece with them!
So, as we grow older, our old clothes sometimes don’t fit us anymore. So, why not create a masterpiece out of it? Maybe a blanket or a jeans, maybe? Make use of the time and be creative, y’ll!
So, what are your plans, this winter? Play outdoors or make masterpieces indoors itself?
