Flight to Mars: One lakh Indians book flight for Mars mission

Around 1,38,899 people have booked their flight to the ‘Red Planet’ via Nasa’s InSight (Interior Exploration using Seismic Investigations, Geodesy and Heat Transport) mission which is dated May 5, 2018, and to our surprise, a lot of people have submitted their names and received online boarding passes for the mission.

Many people from India have submitted their names and the people from all over the world are in huge numbers- 2,429,807. The names are being etched on a silicon wafer microchip using an electron beam to form letters with lines one one-thousandth the diameter of a human hair. This chip will then be attached to the top hull of the lander.

According to NASA, India ranks number 3 on the global list with regard to the number of names submitted for the Mars mission.
