Days after a video went viral showing a woman thrashing an armyman in public in Delhi’s Rajokri flyover, the woman has apologized to the soldier amid public furore over the incident.
The 44-year-old woman, Smriti Kalra, had been arrested from her home in Gurugram by police after a Junior Commissioned Officer filed an FIR over the unprovoked assault.
The incident took place on September 11 when an Army group was making its way from the National Security Guards base at Manesar to Nizamuddin railway station. According to the FIR and information provided to police by the subedar leading the party, the woman had overtaken the Army group and was driving rashly.
According to the FIR, the Army driver honked a few times to pass the woman, at which point she slowed and came to an abrupt stop in front of the Army group. When the driver tried to reason with the woman, she apparently held him by the collar and slapped him, all the while hurling abuses at the Army. While the woman was acting in a fit of rage, the Armymen kept their cool and remained cordial with the woman.
Following her arrest, Kalra has issued an apology to the Army and the public and, as can be seen in the video above, has also said that she would apologize to the Army soldier in person.
