Several vehicles were swept into a nearby canal after a garbage landfill in East Delhi’s Ghazipur collapsed on Friday. Two people died and several others are feared trapped after the incident.
The incident took place at around 2:30 pm and rescue team was rushed to the spot. At least four people were rescued and rescue team is trying to track people who may have been buried under the garbage heap or swept in the river after the collapse.
The Ghazipur landfill is among the largest dumping ground in Delhi standing several stories high. Police officials have confirmed that one car and two two wheelers ended up in the drain after the collapse.
