Three militants were killed along with Hizbul commander Yasin Itoo when gun battle took place between Terrorist outfit and security forces on Saturday evening lasted till the following morning in Kashmir’s Shopian district.

The battle took place when Kashmir Police along with Indian Army jointly launched a search operation in Avneera village. The militants opened fire trying to break the cordon. The security forces came under gun fire from outside the cordon and the building which was suspected to be the hideout of the militants was blown up, according to the police sources.
On Saturday, Kashmir IGP, Muneer Khan said: “several militants were surrounded by forces in Shopian, but another bunch was shooting at the security team from an open area outside the cordon”.
DGP of Kashmir Police, SP Vaid, earlier disclosed Sepoy Ilayaraja P and Sepoy Gowai Sumedh Waman were martyred during the operation.

According to the residents, the locals started pelting stones at the security forces as soon as the firing started. Police responded by firing pellets and tear gas.
