At the ongoing Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show, Suzuki has showcased two new concepts based on the Ignis hatchback. The concepts provide a look at how the Ignis platform can be expanded towards the crossover and sport markets.
The S-Urban concept is the variant that most people would be particularly interested in. The Ignis gets a complete makeover with an increased ride height, rugged exteriors and large off-road tyres. The exterior gets a striking dual-tone treatment with black plastic on the bumpers and skirts contrast with the body colour.
The sportier G-Urban concept carries on the Ignis’ already sporty looks and improves it further. G-Urban features a more angular front bumper and a larger rear bumper, both clad in black plastics. There are additional flourishes such as an LED strip running through the front grille and large rear spoiler.
Both the cars are mechanically the same as the standard Ignis with the same 1.2-litre, 83hp petrol engine and the five-speed manual and automatic gearboxes. Interior-wise as well, both concepts feature the same interiors as the production Ignis. Maruti Suzuki could bring one of the two to Indian shores as special editions, a strategy Maruti adopted to great success with the Swift.
