Chandigarh stalking incident: Police manages to retrieve CCTV footage

The issue started on Friday night when Haryana BJP chief Subhash Barala’s son Vikas Barala (23) allegedly stalked Varnika Kundu in Chandigarh and tried to break into her car after a long car chase when the police managed to nab the accused at the right moment.

Varnika who is the daughter of senior IAS officer went on social media to describe her horrifying incident. The issue escalated and an immense pressure was mounted up for the resignation of Subhash Barla from the opposition.

  • The accused, Vikas and his friend chased Varnika from their SUV and tried to corner her, meanwhile she managed to contact police and police nabbed Vikas when he was about to open her car.

 

  • Chief Minister of Haryana, Manohar Lal Khattar said that the strict action will be taken against the accused if found guilty and there is no need of taking action against Subhash Barala as it is an individual issue and law will take its course.

 

  • The accused were charged with stalking and drunk and driving and were later out on bail after few hours of their arrest.

 

  • Deputy of Subhash Barala, Ramveer Bhatti came out with a shocking statement and questioned Varnika that why was she allowed by her parents to stay out late and children should come home on time.

 

  • Randeep Singh Surjewala, of the opposition, alleged that 5 out of 7 CCTV cameras along the stretch described by Varnika where incident took place was missing.

 

  • Kirron Kher, BJP MP strongly condemned the remarks made by BJP Vice President of Haryana and she said that there is no watering down of the case and she has been assured by the police about the safety of CCTV footage.

 

  • Congress accused BJP of controlling Chandigarh police to hush the case.

 

  • SSP Chandigarh said that they are analysing the CCTV footage and urged the media people to not make it a media trial.
