Pothole claims life of a lady biker in Mumbai

Mumbai is getting a bad name for its potholes after a woman biker was crushed to death by a truck when she tried to avoid a pothole in Jawhar-Dahanu highway on Sunday.

Jagruti Viraj Hogale, was a part of a women’s biker club and was heading towards a famous waterfall when the incident happened. By the time her club members spotted her lying on the ground, she was already dead.

“We registered a case under section 304 (a) (negligent driving) against Hogale. She should have shown better judgment while riding her bike. Had she swerved to the right, she probably could have been saved as she was wearing a helmet,” said police inspector Jayprakash Gute.

Hogale is survived by her husband and 9-year-old son. She was a member of Bikerni Motorcycle Club and was the most active member of the club who made several Leh-Ladakh trips.

BMC (Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation), which is the richest municipal corporation in India was recently criticized by Radio Jockey Malishka, which didn’t go well as Yuva Sena members urged the municipal commissioner to file a Rs500-crore defamation suit against 93.5 Red FM. Several people came to her support and famous VJ (Video Jockey) Jose released a satirical video highlighting the shortcomings of the BMC in the city.

Few other cases were also reported due to potholes in the city.
