Tamil superstar Rajnikanth met the group of farmers led by P Ayyakannu in Tamil Nadu and promised his support on their plea of river interlinking project on Sunday and promised to give Rs 1 Crore for the cause, according to the reports.

‘Thalaiva’ of Tamil cinema, Rajnikanth a few weeks back gave hints of coming into politics. Rajnikanth said that he will be representing farmers plea of interlinking rivers to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Ayyakannu, president of National South Indian River Linking Farmers Association said “Rajini told us that he will take steps to facilitate interlinking rivers, he said first (Peninsular) rivers like Mahanadi, Godavari, Krishna, Palaru, and Cauvery should be linked”.

Earlier, in 2002, Rajnikanth offered Rs 1 Crore towards interlinking Himalayan and Peninsular river during fast on the Cauvery issue.
