Punjab drug dealer dies in a Mob Attack

Date:

Bathinda: Vinod Kumar, 25, who was accused of drug dealing in Bathinda in Punjab, was attacked by a mob yesterday. His hands were chopped off and legs were sliced after which he was taken to the hospital where he died after a few hours.

Vinod was charged with selling drugs; other people in the village forced him to relocate 6-7 months ago. Yesterday Mr. Kumar returned to his village and was attacked by a group of ten people. The deadly assault was filmed by people with their cellphones.

‘’He was facing some cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act and had come out of jail only 3-4 days back,’’ said Inspector Jagdish Kumar.

Vinod kumar was moved to a local hospital, surrounded by villagers who were not pleased with the assistance that was being provided to him. The police then moved him to another hospital, Faridkot that is located 45km away from the local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. A case of murder has been registered against some unknown people.

They villagers are not satisfied with the fact that the police did not take any action against Mr. Kumar when they had complained of him selling drugs. Once prosperous because of its rich agriculture, Punjab’s economic growth has stalled due to such people who have turned into addicts in alarming numbers.
