IAS officer drowns while rescuing fellow lady officer

Date:

A trainee Indian Administrative Services officer was found dead in a swimming pool at the training institute in South Delhi’s Ber Sarai area on Tuesday. The trainee IAS officer, Amit Dahiya, was a resident of Sonipat, Haryana.

The Vasant Vihar police station received a PCR call in the early hours of Tuesday, mentioning that a person had drowned in the swimming pool of Foreign Club Institute in Ber Sarai and was being taken to hospital.

Enquiries into the incident revealed that the deceased was attending a party with his colleagues from the Indian Foreign and Revenue Services at the Institute. Evidence suggests that alcohol was being consumed at the party.

According to statements given by the officers at the party, the officers decided to go for a swim in the pool. While swimming, eyewitness accounts state that one of the lady officers slipped into the pool, following which many of the young officers, including the deceased, attempted to rescue her.

After the officer was rescued, it was noticed that Amit Dahiya was missing and soon his body was found floating in the pool. CPR was attempted and the deceased was taken to Fortis Hospital where he was declared brought dead. The deceased has been shifted to AIIMS for post-mortem analysis.
