The Congress party castigated the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in Haryana for its insensitivity and inability to provide safe environment after a woman was gang raped and brutally killed in Rohtak district.
A 23-year-old woman was brutally gang-raped and murdered last week. Later, her mutilated body was found in an empty plot in Haryana’s Rohtak district.
The incident occurred on May 9 and came to light when the victim’s body was found in the city’s IMT area.

The forensic reports suggest that the victim was mutilated with sharp-edged weapons.
The victim had allegedly refused a marriage proposal, following which the accused reached her home a week later with his friends.
After the incident came to light, the Congress party vice president, Rahul Gandhi had slammed the “jungle raj of the BJP.”
“Jungle Raj in the BJP-ruled states continues,” he had said.
Speaking on the issue today some more Congress leaders took to the podium against the state government.

“It is condemn-able. Gang rape cases have become frequent in Haryana. The government is silent; hooligans are ruling and there is no such thing as ‘law and order’. The government is completely insensitive to rape cases, that is why women are getting raped,” Congress leader and All India Mahila Congress president, Shobha Oza said.
Expressing similar views Congress leader Sushmita Deo said, “I hope that the state government will do much more than amend laws and I hope that the same people who criticized the Center during the Nirbhaya case, will today practice what they preached.”

Meanwhile, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders hit back at Rahul Gandhi for calling the case a result of “jungle raj” in Haryana.
The BJP asked the Congress vice president not to politicize the issue and assured stern action against the culprits.
“I think Rahul Gandhi is providing cover to the Bihar government where “jungle and corrupt raj” is the rule. Instead of commenting on the dastardly attack and heinous act, it is very unfortunate that he is politicizing a rape case,” BJP leader, S. Prakash said.

“Any rape is deplorable, shameful and inhuman. The state government is competent to handle the situation. Certainly, the culprits will be arrested and stern action will be taken,” he added.
So far two people have been arrested in the case and a Special Investigation Team has been formed for faster probe.
“Two people have been arrested so far in this case. We have formed a SIT for a fast probe,” said Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order), Muhammad Akil.
