ICJ to hear Kulbhushan Jadhav’s case on Monday

New Delhi: Amid staying the execution of former Indian Navy officer Kulbhushan Jadhav, the International Court of Justice will hear the case on Monday (May 15).

Meanwhile, Pakistan Army said that it’s officials are “ready to respond to International Court’s query”.

“ICJ will hold hearings in India vs Pakistan Case (Request for provisional measures) on Monday 15 May 2017,” ICJ tweeted.

Earlier during the day, Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif met Army Chief Qamar Javed Bajwa to discuss the stay put on Kulbhushan’s hanging by the ICJ.

During their meeting, Bajwa was accompanied by Lt Gen Rizwan Akhtar, the Director General of Pakistan’s Inter-Service Intelligence.

“The International Court of Justice (ICJ), the principal judicial organ of the United Nations, will hold public hearings on Monday 15 May 2017, at the Peace Palace in The Hague, the seat of the Court, in the proceedings instituted by the Republic of India on 8 May 2017 against the Islamic Republic of Pakistan. The hearings will be devoted to the Request for the indication of provisional measures submitted by India,” ICJ said in its Press Release.

Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khwaja Muhammad Asif defended military court’s verdict and accused India of using diversionary tactics.

“Indian letter to ICJ attempt to divert attention from state-sponsored terrorism in Pakistan. Kulbhushan convicted of offenses against national security,” Khwaja Mohammad Asif said in a statement.
